Local 38 Sponsors “Rigging Math” Workshop with Dr. Delbert Hall

From the BA of IATSE#38:

With much anticipation, Local 38 is proud to welcome Delbert Hall, Ph.D., to Detroit for a two-day seminar of Rigging Mathematics. Professor Hall is the author of the textbook “Rigging Math Made Simple” and companion workbook (Spring Knoll Press), and is head of the Design and Technical Theatre Program at East Tennessee State University, where he has taught since 1986. Dr. Hall received his Ph.D. from the University of Florida. Delbert is a founder of D2 Flying Effects, now a division of PointWright Entertainment Rigging, and has been rigging performer flying effects and aerial dance apparatus for over 30 years. He is an ETCP certified rigger (Theatre) and an ETCP Recognized Trainer. Delbert currently does rigging inspections of theatres and theme parks and regularly teaches workshops on rigging and rigging math. He is also the originator of the RigCalc and PocketRigger rigging apps for Android and iOS (iPhone, iTouch, iPad) devices.

This seminar is designed to break down complex rigging calculations and make them easy to understand. Students will work through equations that are both common to fundamental rigging practices and more advanced to the engineering aspects of the craft. Along the way you will learn tips & techniques to remember and execute the formulas with confidence.

Rigging Math Made Simple is a two-day course and will be held on the 2nd & 3rd of June at the Local 38 Union Office (900 Pallister Ave., Detroit, MI 48202). Class begins promptly at 8AM and is scheduled for 8-10 hours each day.

The registration fee for new students is $75. For those who previously took this seminar in 2015 and have retained their class materials, the fee is $50. Registration fees are non-refundable. You may pay by check or credit card, or you may opt to be billed on your next monthly statement. Class size is limited to 25 students. This fee includes theRigging Math Made Simple textbook, a five year subscription to PocketRigger, and a Texas Instruments TI-30XA scientific calculator. You will need to bring a notepad, pencils and pens.

This course can be helpful as an excellent primer for successful ETCP testing. If you are already ETCP certified in either Rigging Classifications, this course will count toward your renewal credits. Please call the Union Office by the end of business on Wednesday, May 30th to RSVP: (313)-870-9570.
